What is a Future Workforce?
What do you mean by the future workforce and what do you expect from it? Obviously, it would be something futuristic or related to it. We all know that the future of this world is in data science, which involves scientific methods, processes, algorithms, and systems to extract knowledge and insights from data in various forms, both structured and unstructured that is similar to data mining. Hence we can say that data scientists are the future workforce.
What does Data Scientist do?
Data science is handled by the data scientists. They have the ability to handle the data; they are trained to do it. Just like a car cannot run without fuel, a business cannot run without utilizing its data. Data has to be well-organized so as to utilize it in the best way possible. It is the Data scientists who handle all the data collected by the institution or a company.
Why do we need Data Scientists?
With the upcoming advancements in the internet, huge data is being collected. From businesses to non-profit organizations to government institutions, there is a seemingly infinite amount of information that has to be sorted, interpreted, and applied for a wide range of purposes. An ordinary person like a data operator cannot handle this amount of data. Data has to be handled, and it has to be utilized in the best possible way. For that, we need Data Scientists. Their role is to use advanced analytics technologies, including Machine Learning and Predictive Modeling, to provide insights beyond statistical analysis.
How can you become a Data Scientist?
Data scientists should have a degree in computer science. Most of them possess a masters while a few have Ph.D. in the stream. They need to be adept in technical skills like coding and be good at mathematics, should possess basic knowledge of Artificial Intelligence with good communication skills, problem-solving ability, and risk analysis. So, to qualify as a data scientist, you must have a degree in Master of Computer Science and then the above mentioned technical skills.
Shortage of Data Scientists
We all know that the future is in data science, but unfortunately, there is a severe shortage of data scientists in the field. Data scientists are very high in demand yet students hesitate to enter this field. The area requires mastering several skills and students are not willing to learn them all, so they prefer not to acquire them all. There are some students who are very keen in pursuing computer science and hence entering this field of data science, but the rate is far less than the requirement demands.
What should be done to meet the demands?
There is an increase in the demand for data scientists, and this can be met by providing them with good pay packages and facilities. A respectable position in the company or institution would give them a sense of importance. When students find it a lucrative career, with data scientists being offered better remuneration and other allowances, there will certainly be a drive in pursuing this course if not to achieve their passion.
