Today, Artificial Intelligence in combination with SD-WANs (software defined WANs) are a major topic of interest. However, there are a number of limitations that they have for a rapid backup and cloud restoration.

Before SD-WANs were developed, companies primarily relied on the plain old Wide Area Network (WAN) that used to carry all the bandwidth congestion, and applications through a single pipe by deploying MPLS (multi-protocol label switching).

Since SD-WANs have been developed, branch offices can now connect to wireless Wide Area Networks, cloud services, private MPLS, and the enterprise data centers via a range of connections.

There happens to be a widespread confusion with respect to SD-WANs as being closely related to SDNs. However, they do have their differences. While SDN is primarily used by an organization’s headquarters for internal data center usage, SD-WANs refer to the technology that a company can buy for the management of a WAN. This goes through a software-based approach that allows the automation of the office network configurations. In the past, these configurations had to be handled manually.

Do remember that the security threats and cyber risks can never really be fully removed. Hence, companies should consider some security options at their end in order to keep their data secure from breaches. Even though Cloud security has had a rapid improvement over the past few years, it is still not fully infallible. In fact, the largest companies are still struggling to prevent a breach of data regularly. One such example would be the recent breaches of data that occurred at Facebook following a cyber attack.

Before moving on to a cloud back-up, consider the following tips in order to back-up extensive data rapidly:

  • It is important to start by considering a fallback plan when it comes to a cloud back-up. Also, consider the stages at which this plan must be invoked. You simply cannot survive to hope that all the issues will be fixed just in time in case a problem arises.

  • Keep your fall back plan broad and extensive. For instance, a fallback plan may include backing up the data to more than one cloud service. Sometimes, it is important to deploy an air gap in case of sensitive data in order to ensure a tight level of security.

  • It is possible to use data acceleration solutions in order to reduce the latency effects which will result in a disaster restore and back up to the cloud. So it is important to remember that SD-WANs carry great potential.

  • Considering implementing your fall back plans at several stages rather than a big implementation. It may even be possible to run them both in parallel.

  • Create an implementation program, with a test program as a subcategory of it. This will allow you to ensure that the functionality and reliability are maximum at your end.

  • Constantly keep a track for all the feedback and monitor your system. It is important to ensure that the system is running as it is expected. This is something that has to be done continuously, and should not be considered as a one-time process.
