Technology has come so far. Now you don't need to waste time by swiping and typing anymore. Instead, you can use your voice to connect with IoT device via digital assistants. Speaking of it, Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa are the two most prominent digital assistants available today. Both AI assistants compete with each other and allow users to do everything whether to control their living room, adjust lighting, tell weather updates or to play a specific song.

However, it becomes hard to decide which one to choose on a day-to-day basis. Wondering which digital assistant is smarter? Well, let's have a look at their basic functionality.

Google Assistant vs. Alexa – The Basics

Google Assistant is the AI-powered software available on numerous devices including Android phones and Google Home speaker. Just one long-press on Home button of your Android phone and Ok Google is enough to talk to your Google Assistant. On the other hand, Alexa is Amazon’s equivalent technology.  Alexa comes into play with Amazon purchases like Amazon Echo smart speaker, or a Fire TV remote control. While both of them are able to support a range of third-party smart home products and speakers and designed to do everything from telling how cold it is outside to turn on your TV or lights, and so on. But, still here comes a question that which one is really smart of the two? Or, who comes out on top? Well, to find out, we need to access both of them more deeply.

Google Assistant vs. Alexa – How Smart Are they?
Google Home does put forth a valid argument seeing how it’s directly connected to search giant Google. This is why Google Assistant is known to give better answers. Thus, users are less likely to experience a negative response from Assistant, for example, “Sorry, I can't translate this language” or “Sorry, I don't have the answer to that question”. Sure, a negative encounter like that can bring an end to the intelligence of smart technology.

However, Alexa isn't too far behind. With recent improvement, it has the ability to interpret your questions based on what is being asked. Since echo being out longer, it supports more smart home devices which gives Alexa an edge over Google Assistant. Sounds neck-and-neck competition?

By asking a variety of questions from each voice assistant, we can get some insights and can decide better which one to pick. For this purpose, Amazon Alexa was pit against Google Assistant on their respective smart-home speaker devices, and few questions were asked. Google has answered questions like – When are UK taxes due? Conversely, Alexa failed. Similarly, when both were asked to change a Spotify song, Assistant started playing another track, whereas Alexa said it’s not supported.

Alexa is abundant of features and skills that simplify your chaotic life. With these skills, you can do a lot from finding your lost phone to making hands-free calls to hailing rides and setting up routines. On the other hand, Google’s improved app discovery expanded language support, and accessibility across devices allow users to interact with Google Assistant in a more natural way.

Conclusion
Setting a smart home isn't so easy. So, if you are seeking a smarter voice assistant, Google Assistant is clearly the winner here, as of now. Since these AI platforms have the potential to be awesome in future, we can't judge for the coming days.
