The population of Japan is aging very rapidly. As a result of this, Japan is now turning to the new-age solutions in order to solve a number of problems with their population. It is expected that more than 1/5th of the Japanese are older than 70. At the same time, the number of people who could provide them with the care that they require is not enough. According to a number of predictions, there will be a shortfall of more than 340000 nursing professionals by the year 2025.
One measure that Japan has taken to address this problem is to actively welcome nursing professionals from all over the globe. Atop that, Japanese is also making use of the new-age artificial intelligence technology in order to bring innovative solutions. For instance, Panasonic has developed robotic beds that can be converted into wheelchairs. Similarly, another company known as Fujitsu has developed a monitoring system that can track the humidity level and temperature along with sound and movement inside the home of the elderly who live all by themselves.
Previously known as ExaIntelligence and founded in the year 2016, ExaWizards is actively involved in a number of artificial intelligence applications from robotics, to financial technology, and drug discovery.
By using deep learning, ExaWizards is attempting to draw an analysis of the unstructured data revolving around nursing care. This data comes in the form of texts, videos, sounds, and other forms of material. One of the main services that this company provides is an ‘Artificial intelligence enabled care’ for the elderly. This approach simply revolves around a caregiving training that combines the algorithms with the touch of humans. This will ultimately allow caregivers in delivering better care in order to improve the life quality of patients suffering from dementia.
The artificial intelligence system used by ExaWizards involves usage of a camera that can be placed on the bed of the patient. At the same time, the caregivers also wear microphones, and smart glasses equipped with a camera. Tablet cameras are also used for this purpose. All the data in the form of sound, pictures, and videos get uploaded on to the ExaWizards server. Here, the algorithms make an analysis of the caregiver-patient interaction and give suggestions for improving the level of care.
The approach that ExaWizards has taken revolves around Humanitude. Humanitude is a method for care that was formed more than 30 years ago. By Rosette Marescotti and Yves Gineste. Based on this method, the emphasis is put on techniques that involve speaking quietly in order to maintain a level of respect and trust. Humanitude has its benefits. Today, a big number of nursing professionals are trained in the methods of Humanitude.
There are other areas in which ExaWizards is applying the artificial intelligence techniques. For instance, the Choju-Kun platform is primarily designed for administrators and local healthcare professionals. This system analyzes the quality of care that is being given to a patient. Atop that, it also figures out where this care makes an impact and the probability of the patient to move on an advanced stage where greater care will be needed.
