The field is set and the players have arrived. In the world of start-ups, the predominant factor shall always be the idea or the concept. No argument there. But the near second will be the language you choose to code or compile in. Most of you must be wondering by now ‘Does it even matter?’! Well let us tell you, it does. The road to your decision will be paved with numerous factors in terms of language understanding and user software, but the crux of the matter is far deeper.

To completely understand the matter, we need to debate the pros and cons of each of these options, ios and android, and compare to see which suits you better.

According to dailytekk.com, the life span of a mobile or palm top gadget is roughly 6 months to 1.5 years as opposed to nearly a decade ago where a gadget is expected to be in your life for at least 3 years. During the first few months on purchase, the users spend their time downloading almost all the apps they come across and the last few months marks the decline of the person’s interest in the app which could possibly lead to a dip or complete uninstalling of the app.

So to understand which platform will suit you better, you need to consider three major factors which are:

  • Demographic or Target Audience
  • Revenue flow or income generation capacity
  • Total budget and cost

You might think it’s complicated when you hear it put forth like so, but it’s very simple. Let us explain.

Demographic or Target Audience:

This is something which is very important in the development of any product, let alone mobile based apps. We have come to divide the demographic based on age and continents. We know old people and younger generations do not share the same interests nor do people from developed nations and developing nations. It is very broad in division yet construed identification. It’s simple. If you are catering to the older, less tech savvy audience, Android will be your best bet. This is because iOS, though ironically is a more user friendly software, is preferred by the younger generation because of its adaptability to the device and its free running software protocols. Moreover, in terms of gadgets, again, since the younger demographic use upscale gadgets, their preference lies with iOS due to its sheer arrogance in nature.

But the advantages of Android are that it’s easier to develop and has lesser device requirements. But its RAM consumption is higher.

Revenue Flow or Income Generation Capacity:

This is a key factor before you make your choice on which platform will your app be compiled on. Before any app is made, a revenue model must be hatched to understand the total income generation capability of the app. In other words, we must know how much money we are expected or targeted to make. Otherwise the entire process is as futile as throwing mud in the wind. There are certain factors that need to be understood when it comes to calculating the total possibility in revenue when it comes to these two platforms.

In broad retrospect, iOS will be the more economically lucrative platform to compile on because of the sheer cost of in-app purchases and buying costs. If the app is released on the iOS market, the manufacturer can make money through selling the app and increasing the number of in-app purchases as well as updating costs. This will generate revenue and minimize the lag which comes with built in ads, unlike android. Android makes its money through add support which increases user frustration and the total revenue generation through the Android market is very little. But, since its outreach is 5 times more than the iOS market, it doesn’t sound so depressing after all because more outreach can also generate revenue. But in terms of flux inflow, iOS takes the cake there.

Total Budget or Cost:

Before you jump the gun and decide which platform you are going to compile in, be sure to know how many eggs you have in the basket already. It is important to know all the resources you possess to build this app and choose the platform you wish to create the app on.

If you are a first-time app creator and manufacturer and do not want to get tangled up in the very time consuming and cost ineffective Android App Development process, iOS is your best bet. In terms of time, which is the equivalent of money in any industry, iOS is far less time consuming.

Moreover, it is made available on a stringent number of devices. This makes it easier to manage the app with less number of servers and workers. However, it does have stringent quality control steps and only good quality apps make it to the market, unlike the Android market where every app under the sun finds it way over to the market.

Also, iOS app development is far lesser in cost because it does not require the various expenses that are constant with the android market such as development cost, beta testing, maintenance for various brands and different UI interfaces as well as screen sizes and different hardware capabilities etc.

Moreover, we already know that the revenue generation is much lower for Android as compared to iOS from what we have read earlier. Hence, its only befitting to deduce that in terms of cost analysis and revenue generation, iOS seems to have the upper hand over Android.

From the entire article, we can see that the iOS platform is the most preferred platform to compile. Most major apps get major budgets and hence they pump a large amount of their resources to develop the app in all platforms available (including Symbian, Windows etc). But if you are a first-time app maker and want to spare yourself some burden and unwanted expenses, I don’t want to make you feel like I’m coaxing you, but why not pick up an iPhone and check it out. You might be surprised.
